CHRISTmas Sign

I made this sign and it was super easy! So easy I did not even take pictures along the way. I need to do a better job of taking pictures as I am doing my projects, I will work on this!

So all I did was use a piece of leftover particle board from my pantry shelf redo. My amazing husband and father-in-law redid the shelves in our pantry a year ago, someday when I actually have a clean and organized pantry I might show y’all, but not today!

I took the rectangle piece of board and spray painted it red, it took about 3 coats to fully cover. Then after allowing it to dry for 48 hours, I cute out CHRISTmas with my mother-in-laws Cricut and placed the stencil on the board. Then I just used cheap acrylic craft paint to paint inside the stencil. I used a foam brush and purposefully left the white paint uneven. Once I painted inside the stencils I pulled the stencils away. There where a few spots my brush bumped outside the stencil but I was able to wipe the white paint away.

And that is it! The sign is simple and that is what I love about it!! Merry CHRISTmas!!

PS Check back tomorrow morning to see where I will be doing my first guest post and be sure to check back tomorrow afternoon when my very first giveaway goes live! It is a good one!!!

Mini Ornament Garland

I have such a quick, easy and cheap little Christmas Decoration you can do in about 10 minutes. It is so quick and easy I do not even have a picture tutorial for you, just the finished product.

I found tubes of nonbreakable mini ornaments in the dollar section of Target and I grabbed one in each of the colors they had, red, green, gold and silver. I was not sure what I was going to do with them but for a dollar each I knew I would think of something. When I got home I found some red ribbon that was a bit wider than the opening at the top of the ornament. I threaded the ornaments through the ribbon until I had enough to stretch across the little half wall opening I have in my livingroom. Then I just tacked each end of the ribbon up with a tack and done! How easy, simple and cute is this!!!

This is all the Christmas Decoration we have up! I am very slow at getting out my decorations, I love Christmas but my oldest son’s birthday is next week and I do not want his birthday to get lost in Christmas. We usually put up a few things here and there until after his birthday. I am working on finishing my advent countdown for this year, as soon as it is done I will post. Nothing like waiting to the last minute!!

Thanksgiving Stenciled Pillow

I have heard about Freezer Paper Stenciling on many other blogs. I was not exactly sure what that was till I watched Cheri from I am Momma Hear Me Roar. Cheri has an excellent video tutorial that answered all my questions. After watching her video I felt like I was ready to try freezer stenciling, I was just not sure what I was going to try it on. Then while picking up the glass vases for my Thanksgiving Mantel at the Dollar Store I found a dark brown place mat. This was one of the place mats that has double fabric and stitched around the sides.

Somewhere when I first starting look at craft blogs I saw where someone took a place mat, opened up a side added stuffing and sewed shut to make a pillow. I wish I knew where I saw this but this was before pinterest. I probably bookmarked somewhere but I cannot find it anywhere.

So when I found my place mat I knew I wanted to try Freezer Stenciling on the place mat and then I wanted to open and add some stuffing to make a pillow.

I printed out Happy Thanksgiving in block letters and traced onto my freezer paper and then cut out with an Exacto Knife. Then I ironed on the freezer paper, painted the letters to match the colors on my Thanksgiving Subway Art that is sitting on my mantel.

The top picture is the place mat I started with! Can you believe the bottom is the pillow and it cost me a $1.00!! I love DIYing!!!

I also found these place mats on clearance so I grabbed them to make some more pillows.

In all I made 4 pillows for $8.50!!! Love a good deal and a little DIYing!! I am thankful for all the creative inspiration out there!!

Thanksgiving Mantel

I got my Thanksgiving Mantel up over a week ago but have not had the time to make the post. So here it is finally!! I love that I went simple with this one!

I was going to create my own Thanksgiving Subway Art. I have enjoyed making my Fall Subway Art and My Halloween Subway Art. But then Jamie over at Eighteen 25 made her Thanksgiving Subway Art and I just loved the colors so I went with that one! You can find the subway art here and Jamie also has a second color combo available!

I love the traditional Orange and Brown but I really like the addition of the blue!! So I printed the subway art put in my frame and then added my painted vase to the mantel. I then painted 4 smaller vases in the 4 colors from the subway art. I have candles in the smaller ones but you cannot see the little bit of light that comes from them unless it is night. And well that just does not provide for the best lighting for picture taking!

Painting jars is super easy! I have a tutorial here!

You can see the candle light a bit here. I put tea lights in the jars but I think I need to add a larger candle, maybe a votive will work better.

I may add some branches to the tall vase and make a Thankful Tree! I found this one via Pinterest!! We will see if I get to that!

I am thankful I have a home to decorate and enjoy!!

Fall Wreath

Here goes my first attempt at a wreath! I think it turned out all right. This is rounding out the last of my fall projects. I actually did my first Halloween project last night and I am super excited to show y’all! My idea turned out way awesome!!

Now onto the Fall Wreath!

Items needed:

Foam wreath form – or make your own with Plumbing foam from Lowe’s! I found this tip at The Penny Parlor via Pinterest (Don’t you just love Pinterest!! Come pin along with me!)

Scissors, Duct Tape, Straight Pins

Fabric(approximately 1 1/2 yards cut into 4 inch by 4 inch squarea)

Felt strips for Felt Flowers or any other embellishments you would like

So I started with a 6 foot tube of foam from the plumbing department at Lowe’s for $.97! Cut the tube in half and taped the ends together with duct tape. Next I cute some leftover brown fabric from my stash into 4 inch squares.

Then I found this great tutorial on bubble wreaths at Today’s Fabulous Finds. I took pictures as I did mine because I need practice taking pictures while making my crafts. This is more difficult than I though it would be but I am getting the hang of it!

So for each bubble take a 4 inch square of fabric and fold over the opposite corner to make a triangle. Then bring the top left corner down to the middle. Next turn over the piece of fabric holding the corners in place and bring down the last corner to the middle.

Put a straight pin into the square through all the corners. Push the pin with the fabric bubble onto the foam wreath form. Continue filling in the foam wreath form with the bubbles. Fluff the bubbles by gently pulling the fabric out on each bubble.

Continue along until you filled the entire wreath. Mine took about 105 pieces cause this is all the fabric I had left. If I had about 10 more bubbles I would have been very happy but I made do with what I had!

Finally I made these cute felt flowers! I found a great tutorial on I am Momma Hear Me Roar. Cheri made her’s for a cute autumn belt but mine worked great for the wreath. I just made the felt flower but instead of gluing I just took a straight pin with a colorful head and pushed through the middle of the flower into the wreath.

There you have an easy Fall Wreath! With all the bubbles it took about 2 hours but only cost .$97 for the foam as I had all the rest on hand! Love when that works out!!

Fall “Mantel”

Over the weekend I finally finished my Fall “Mantel!” Now I use the term “mantel” loosely as the area I am referring to is the half-wall between the family room and playroom but “mantel” is just easier!

So here it is!!!

I wanted to do some more but I also need to start working on Halloween so that I can have all that done and ready to go by the end of September. So for this year this is all the Fall but this is a start! I am excited to have pretties sitting on the flat surface instead of stacks like usual. I truly hope this will keep me from stacking on this space, we will see.

Here is a break down of what is up and links to the projects either here on my blog or a link to the blog where I found the idea.

1. A FALL sign I made last year. Super easy just mod podge and leftover scrapbook paper.

2. Painted Mason Jars

3. Fall Paper Flower

4. Fall Frame

5. Fall Subway Art - Free download! (this is the only money I spent on the mantel, I paid for the printing, everything else was done from what I had on hand!)

6. Felt Leaves – I found these on Made, Dana has a great tutorial and they were super easy! I strung together 6 leaves to make a garland across the top. These will be on the only pretty “falling” leaves we will see here!

So there you go Fall Mantel is done! Thank you for this blog cause with the blog I actually followed through on the project and finished! Enjoy the pictures and I hope this inspires you to get some Fall into your home!

Fall Paper Flower

Happy Labor Day!!

So on my continued quest to decorate the half-wall between the livingroom and the playroom I decided to attempt these paper flowers I found here.

I think the end result worked and the best is the end price $0!! I used all materials I had on hand!! Love that!! And I used DOUBLE SIDED TAPE!! I love double sided tape, it is the greatest!!!

Now for the tutorial!

Items needed:

Paper of your choosing (I used cardstock but I think regular weight scrapbook paper would work better)

Paper cutter or scissors

Double Sided Tape

Circle Punches (I used a 3 inch, 2 inch and a 1.5 inch)

Straw

1. I picked 5 solid fall colors and cut two – 1 inch by 11 inch piece of each color. I used the pinky shear blade on my paper cutter but a straight edge will work too!

2. Stack the five strips and staple in the middle (you will have to fold over the one side to fit into a standard stapler) and repeat on the second stack.

3. Take one stapled stack and put a piece of double sided tape at the top end of the first strip.

4. Fold over the piece of paper with the tape to the center and push down.

5. Move to the next piece and repeat, move around to all the the strips, repeat on the second stack of paper.

6. Take the two halves and place double sided tape on one side and push  onto the other half to create an entire flower.

7. Fluffy the flower as needed and if needed put double sided tape between “petals” to have a more uniform shape.

8. For the stem I wrapped a straw in green paper taping the paper when I started and ended.

9. Wrap the top of the stem in double sided tape and stick between two of the petals and push together so the stem will hold to the flower.

10. For the center I punched a 3 inch circle and tripped with craft scissors, then punched a 2 inch circle and stuck onto the 3 inch circle with double sided tape. I continued with a 1.5 inch punch and topped with a B printed on vellum from my computer and cutout.

11. I put the entire center onto the flower with double sided tape and DONE!

12. Enjoy your work! – I plan on adding this to the fall half-wall! (I am putting my flower in my painted mason jar!)

Fall Subway Art – Freebie

Yesterday I showed you the half-wall between our livingroom and playroom that I am wanting to decorate for Fall. In the picture on the left side there is a 16×20 Frame propped against the side wall. My idea is that I would put Subway Art for the season or holiday in there.

So on to the Fall Subway Art! I created a 16×20 Fall Subway Art piece!! I had lots of fun thinking of all the words that come to mind with fall. Right now around here the idea of fall is a bit of a stretch it has been 100+ for so long I don’t think I can remember what 75 feels like but I sure hope cooler temps will be here soon!

I created two different versions of the subway art, one has Football as the last word, as we are big football fans here but I do know not everyone cares as much for the game as us at the HoB. So the second one has the word cornucopia instead!
