Holy Halloween, Batman!!!

For Halloween my boys decided to be Batman and Robin. I then found Dahlhart Lane’s Batman and Robin Costumes from T-Shirts on Pinterest! I knew that is what I wanted to make the boys! I love making Halloween Costumes, I think they are so much cuter than store bought.

Now I have no tutorial for you. I did buy my shirts at Hobby Lobby and I used pajamas that currently fit my boys as a pattern. I am a very novice sewer and jersey knit was not easy to work with but I was able to get through the project. I did find a tutorial for the capes at Southern Institute, they are made from t-shirts as well and super simple.

Do you do homemade Halloween Costumes or store bought?

Happy Halloween!!

Glowing Jack-o-Lantern Jar

So I found a fun glass jar at the Dollar Store the other week, I was not sure what I would be doing with it but I knew something would come to me.

I wanted to make a Jack-o-Lantern Jar but I wanted it all painted in the inside. I do not have a vinyl cutting machine so I had to get creative. I took a piece of white shipping label and cut the Jack-o-Lantern face out. I then stuck the label inside the jar and painted black. (Like a stencil) Sorry I did not get pictures of these steps.

I then peeled the shipping label off and let the black paint dry overnight. The next day I put some orange acrylic craft paint in the bottom of the jar. Then I used a foam brush to cover all of the jar. I wanted the paint to be thin enough so light would shine through. When I brushed over the Jack-o-Lantern face the nose came off and I almost lost one of the eyes. Changed the look but I kind of like how it turned out.

I used a tea light in the bottom of the jar for the light. I think the Jack-o-Lantern Jar will find a home on my Halloween “mantel!”

Mini-Candy Corn Banner

I have a cork board in my play room that I like to display my boys’ current art projects. This would be the teacher in me!! Since it is October we have lots of Halloween Arts & Crafts projects to display but the top of the cork board needed a little Halloween touch! So enter my mini-candy corn banner – Super easy, made with what I had on hand and only took 15 minutes!!

1. Gather supplies needed:
Card Stock – 1 piece each Yellow, Orange, White
Circle Punches – 3 1/2″, 3″ & 2″ (or 3 different size punches)
Double Sided Tape
Scissors
Black Thread and Needle

2. Punch 4 Yellow Circles with the largest punch

3. Punch 4 orange circles with the next size punch and 4 white circles with the smallest punch

4. Using double sided tape, apply tape to the back of the orange circles

5. Center the orange circle on top of the yellow circle

6. Apply tape to the back of the white circle and center over the orange circle

7. Cute the 3 circles that are taped together in half

8. Cute each half in half again

9. Cut the pieces in half once more, so you have eight pieces from each circle

10. Thread your needle and starting from the front push needle through candy corn on the yellow part

11. Come back through the candy corn on the other side and continue threading each candy corn onto the thread

12. I pushed my candy corns up right next to each other but you could leave space between, depending on the look you want. Make sure to tie off your thread on each end of the banner!

Here is my mini-candy corn banner on the cork board! Come back the next few weeks to see all the fun kids’ Halloween Arts & Crafts project we will be displaying up there!!

Halloween Name Signs

Last year, before I blogged, I made each of the boys a Halloween Sign with their name to go on their bedroom doors. They were lots of fun to make and super easy.

Because I made these before I blogged I did not have a picture before I added the letters for the the boys’ names so I blurred out all but one letter in photoshop.

I used a wood plaque from Michael’s, painted the edge purple and then cut out the orange paper to fit the top of the plaque. I used Mod Podge to glue the paper down and then added a coat of Mod Podge to the top. The letters and Halloween Shapes and Characters are scrapbook chipboard pieces that I just glued down. Along the edge of the plaque I Mod Podged pieces of scrapbook paper.

Fancy Pumpkin

A few weeks ago I found some foam pumpkins at the dollar store. One I used for the boys’ Halloween Bowling Game, the other two I had no idea what I wanted to use them for but then creativity struck! I took one of the pumpkins, spray painted it with glossy black paint I had left over from another project. Then I took some straight pins with different colored heads and pushed them into the foam pumpkin. I just started at the top and went with it. I stop because I ran out of straight pins, but I like it! Kind of a grown-up sophisticated pumpkin, not sure it goes with the rest of my Halloween Decor, maybe I will put the fancy pumpkin in my office.

Halloween Bowling

Back in August I was pouring creamer out of the container into my morning coffee and when I set the creamer down I noticed that the container looked almost like a bowling pin. My creative mind started turning, ten creamer containers later and Halloween on the brain, I made an indoor Halloween bowling game for the boys!

For the bowling ball I picked up a foam pumpkin from the Dollar Store!

For the pins I took the labels off, washed and dried 10 creamer containers. Then I squirted some white tempra paint (cause that is what I had) inside the containers and shook around the paint till it covered all of the inside. I allowed the containers to dry over night then put the caps back on. Because I have a two-year old I should have (I will have to go back) and glue the lids closed. Then I just added the ghost face with different colored sharpies.

We set the pins up against our backdoor and the boys had a blast! I did go back and using painters tape add Xs on the floor where the pins go so the boys could set the pins themselves. In the end the boys played with the bowling set for thirty minutes and have gone back several times to play with it since we put it out yesterday. A fun indoor activity, perfect for our rainy weekend!

Since I drink creamer and had the paint on hand, the only cost was the $1 to buy the foam pumpkin. I just had to wait till we used 10 creamers. Though I am a huge coffee drinker so it was not that long!

Ghost Footprint Plaque

So last week I post my Ten on Tuesday list of Halloween projects I wanted to get done. I have finally completed one of them! I have 4 others I am in the middle of, I tend to be a bit ADD with my projects and cannot seem to just start and finish one. Instead I feel the need to start four or five at once and then slowly finish them.

I have finally finished the Ghost Footprint Plaque! My inspiration was found on pinterest!

 Miner Moments

Mine turned out a bit different but I really like it!

I had wanted to write Happy Halloween and the boys names in white paint but I am no good at free hand! Vinyl would have been cute but I do not have a cutter! Someday… So I just glued some chip board pieces I had left over from a project from last year. I did not do a full tutorial but the ghost footprints are easy, just paint with white paint and push down. Though some how it was not that simple with either of my boys!

Haunted House

So here goes my first Halloween Post! I had an empty Goldfish Box and though that could make a cute Halloween Haunted House and so I went to work. The end result is more than I had expected and I am so excited to share with you!

All you need is an empty Goldfish Box, Black Spray Paint, yellow tissue paper, small Halloween Foam stickers, tape and a small battery powered light.

First, I just spray painted the Goldfish Box with some left over black spray paint. It took 2 good coats with a 3rd touch up but this could be due to my lack of spray paint experience. I then allowed the box to dry for a full 24 hours before moving on to the next step.

Next I just cut out windows on three sides of the box and a door on the fourth side. I used an old steak knife cause I could not find my Exacto knife. I liked the steak knife cause it left some of the edges a little raggedy and that was the look I was going for!

Then I took yellow tissue paper and cut out slightly bigger than the window openings and taped on the inside to cover all the openings, including the door.

Next I took some small Halloween Foam stickers and stuck them on the inside of the box onto the yellow tissue paper. And I the found a jack-o-lantern light that was missing the battery cover but still worked for my light on the inside of the house.

Finally I put Velcro on the top to keep the house closed. But I can still open to turn the light on and off.

And here is the house with the light on!

I add a few of the foam stickers to the outside so that during the day the house is still Halloween and Cute! I am so excited to have this on my Halloween “mantel!!”
